Reconfigurable Microwave Filters for Communication Systems

The continuously increasing number of access technologies in cellular mobile communications creates a proportionally increasing demand for individual types of transceivers. Significant savings could be possible if a single cellular base station transceiver were to support multiple access protocols operating at different frequency bands.

This is expected to be the trend in the next generation radio networks. Despite the fact that most sections of a radio can be designed for wide-band operation, widely tuneable front-end filters with very low insertion loss are not yet available.

This project is dedicated to research in novel tuning methods for radio frequency filters that will comply with the very tight practical design requirements, and only minimally degrade the filter characteristics.
