Microwave Imaging for Breast-Cancer Screening

The project is divided into three parts, each vital for the success of the project:

Inverse scattering using nonlinear inversion. Due to the complexity of the scattering problem it is necessary to reconstruct the images using full non-linear inversion. Different algorithms have been developed for this purpose with special emphasis on low reconstruction time and high robustness.
Electromagnetic modeling of the camera with and without the breast. This is important in order to investigate the performance of different system setups. Also, some of the developed reconstruction algorithms requires for several forward solutions to be obtained before the final images are created.
Design and construction of the microwave imaging system. Based on electromagnetic modeling and results from the inverse scattering investigations, a microwave imaging system has been constructed. A key factor is reduction of noise in the system. Currently, advanced broadband antennas and microwave electronics are being investigated.

System-on-Chip Solution for RF Front-End: The microwave imaging system for breast cancer detection is being integrated on chip.
